Topic #1: All those salespeople who keep yammering on and on at you about the importance of a good mattress, and how mattresses wear out with time, and what a difference it will make sleeping on something that's actually *good* versus the thing that was kind of crappy even when you first bought it seventeen years ago?

Yeah, so even though those guys are trying to make a sale and hence are not to be trusted, there's still also the annoying fact that they're--uh--right. Last weekend, feeling a bit tired of waking up tired, I finally went out and consummated the purchase of a nice new Beautyrest, and yesterday it was finally delivered (ohmyGOD it's--high! My bed surface is, like, waist-high now!). Last night I clambered up on it and slept like a sack of hammers, and this morning? This morning I got up with no pain, if you can imagine that. No staggering and hobbling off towards a hot shower, aching and creaking and clutching at my sacrum. So I am happy (if a bit resentfully so), and look forward to actually having energy in the mornings again. (And I think I can lower the bedframe a few inches, so I don't have to actually vault into bed at night.)

Topic #2: A flashfiction story has visited my brain, and after the recent inner drought it feels good to be writing again. I'm a bit perplexed by the fact that this thing seems to want to be written in second person, a format which will probably annoy readers. But second person has its uses when one is striving for a certain feel of -- intimate dissociativeness, for lack of a better term. I'm hoping I can get the thing done by Friday, in any event. ::glowering at Vecchio::

Topic 3: Oh, how I love my wireless connection, which I finally got working. I'm sitting at this very moment in Dunn Bros. coffeehouse, sipping an iced mocha and looking out the window at the downtown skyline. This *seems* to be (knocking on wood, crossing fingers), that rarest of all desiderata, a coffeehouse that doesn't play annoying background music (which is to say, *any* kind of background music, for lo, when I'm trying to write, all music is annoying). It's rather more air-conditioned in here than I'd like, but I can hardly fault that, not in July, on a morning of steambath humidity. (We had a massive, ear-cracking, torrents-of-rain thunderstorm around 5 this morning, which I listened to in a happy drowse, from atop my Very High Bed of Incredible Comfort, and now roofs, lawns, pavement, everything is sodden, and steaming in the sun).

Topic 4: Upon reflection, there is no topic 4, I'm just procrastinating the labor of getting back into the story.

Now to see if I can actually post from here.
