Fnargh. So after several weeks of unseemly (but at least private) gloating about my amazing resistance to all the many and disgusting varieties of Le Crud floating around (which I was more than ready to credit to the vast amount of residual virtue from my smoking-quitting), I have now been smacked with the raw throat and the achey trachea and the general blah.

Which is unfortunate, because this is probably the worst week out of all the weeks in the 05-06 academic year for me to be sick. I have around 1600 students who need to be reviewed--and that means, for every one of these 1600, scrutiny of transcript (courses taken, GPA earned) and of their major plan, and some sort of Amazing-Kreskin projection about the realism of the latter, given the former. About a fourth to a fifth of these have been discovered to have something majorly wrong with their spring registration (or, in the vernacular, "Holy *fuck*, kid, what the HELL do you think you're doing??"), and so I really need to get in touch with them before the semester begins on Tuesday. Needless to say, all this takes time and brainpower, neither of which are in ample supply just now.

I dragged big piles of transcripts home with me when I left work at 3:30, but haven't done a goddamn thing with them; instead I have been eating chips and cheese and swilling cheap brandy. I foresee, in the immediate future: (a) somewhat more of the cheap brandy, perhaps infused into decaf chai; (b) House MD at 8:00; (c) immediate collapse into bed after (b) concludes.

And, likely, no choice but to head on into work tomorrow, drat it. Too much to do to be out a day.
