So [livejournal.com profile] c_regalis has, like the picture-spamming goddess she is, posted a screencap from one of CKR's new movies, Snow Cake (second image from the top). There ensued some discussion about CKR's attractiveness or lack thereof in this particular shot, but to me? The whole HotOrNot? issue isn't really germane; what's compelling to me about it is that this represents for me a marvelous visual of one of the stock characters of dS fanfiction, e.g., The Ray Who Stayed With Fraser in the Frozen Armpit of the North and Made a Life For Himself There. Older, yeah ... a little heavier, features a little blunter, deep deep creases in the face from long hours squinting in the glare of winter sun off snow. Tough, competent, self-assured -- and happy. I mean, look at him -- can't you tell he's just finished up fixing the snowmobile, and feeding the dogs? In another minute he's going to head on into the cabin, stomp the snow off his boots, pull off his cap and send it sailing across the room in the general direction of the coathook. Fraser (who is stirring something on the stove) will tsk at him, and Ray'll grin and clomp over and grab him from behind in a bearhug, and smooch him on the back of the neck, and Fraser will smile a little and keep stirring.

I swear, this picture makes me even happier than the (admittedly) prettier ones just below it.

because you're right. that IS the Ray, sitting in the porch every morning, sipping his coffee and watching Dief and the rest of the dog jumping around in the snow.

I'm going to completely ignore the part where you said HOTorNOT wasn't germane, because...what? People don't like the second shot? He looks like a crazy redneck trucker, which is hot by definition.

Oh, and it's actually not a screencap from the film but a pic that someone posted who lives in that town where the movie was shot. I cut her out of the pic for privacy reasons. And because I couldn't link back to where I found that pic. Because I don't remember anymore. But anyway, apparently CKR let take pictures of him with anyone who asked. :)

I wish to address the Inner Sap -

This scenario you drew up right here? This is why I love Jed and Leo. That sentiment is the Big Sap Winner. And it contributes to why I love older men pairings (and yet I can't get behind Adama/Tigh. Go know.).

I was thinking about you and Jed and Leo just a little while ago! I was watching a West Wing rerun on Bravo, which was ... um ... (*scrabbling around on zap2it.com*) A Change Is Gonna Come, and there's this marvelous scene toward the end (which you doubtless know well) when Leo walks in and Jed is so *overjoyed* to see him, and gives him this big lingering hug, and then Leo turns to walk out, and pauses and turns back, and Jed's just giving him this *look* . . .

Well, as I say, I thought of you. And yeah, the older guys *rule.*

I think he looks good in all the pictures. I had to go back and check them out a few times, really look hard, to make sure.

Actually, in the candid pictures he looks like he could be one of the contractors/construction guys that we've had around here. Except for the down vest thing since it's FL and he'd be too hot in it. But he looks like a normal guy. A hot normal guy.

We have a locksmith that comes by regularly, and he's got that lanky CKRish kind of charm.

Glad you went to the trouble of giving them that extra-special scrutiny, because lord knows, one wouldn't want to misjudge through undue haste. *g*

And yeah, the mix of normal-guy and supernatural hotness is definitely one of those distinguishing CKR trademarks...

Absolutely. The Ray in, say, Hth's East O the Sun, West O the Moon. His freedom, his grace, his balance, his strength, his pride -- they were not gifts from me, much as I might have wished to be the giver. He built them in ice and blood and courage, and he wears them well.
