consumerist frenzy
Mar. 25th, 2003 08:58 amSo I've been going through a bout of craving a new laptop, due in part to the fact that my ancient Toshiba is little more than a fancy etch-a-sketch these days (the floppy drive no longer works, hence I have no way to transfer anything onto or off of the hard drive). Seeing this as a chance to begin freeing myself from the sticky clutches of Bill Gates and his minions, I'd been looking around at iBooks and PowerBooks, new and used, here and there--going down to the Apple store and fondling the merchandise, checking the want ads...
And then this morning, on eBay, I snapped up my new baby: a near-new iBook, with the RAM upgrade to 384MB, and the DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive, and the Airport wireless card-- *and* the Airport base station!--all for under $850. Mine, all mine! And with luck I'll get it in time to bring to Connexions. I can watch DVDs on the plane! I can lounge around on the back deck this summer and surf the web! Yay me!
(Hey, I figure, I almost never buy clothes, or CDs, I drive a paid-off clunker, I get almost all my books from the library, I haven't been to Europe since 1975 -- I deserve a new toy, right?)
