Sometimes I like to watch TV with imaginary-Methos sitting by my side, swilling beer. As, for instance, with tonight's Buffy...

...when I can only imagine that Methos would be flinging empty beer cans at the screen and yelling, "For the love of GOD, woman, forget the snogging with your ex, when you've got the bad guy down make sure he STAYS down! Separate his head from his neck, or his entrails from his abdominal cavity, or SOMETHING!" Of course, earlier in the episode, he would have been muttering that Buffy could have, whilst trotting up the stairs to rescue her pals, taken a swipe (with the axe she so conveniently had in her hands) at the cervical region of Caleb (who was so conveniently just *standing* there with his back to her).

And I would chime in about how for the past several episodes I've been waving my arms at the TV and yelling, "Rocket launcher! Hey, maybe it'd work on him, maybe it wouldn't, but it did the job on the freakin' *Judge*, right? Maybe it'd be worth a try, hah? Instead of getting your pert little ASS kicked around the room over and over??"

And then we'd have a few more drinks and get cranky about when the HELL did Spike join the cast of Dawson's Creek anyway, hah?

I mean, OK, I wasn't thrilled with the episode, I've been mostly unthrilled with this season, but I can forgive a lot--excessive speechiness, a great deal of telling-not-showing, my increasingly uneasy sense that we will never be given any explanation for pod-Giles--but *man*, I hate it when ostensibly intelligent characters act like idiots for no reason other than to ratchet up the suspense-factor. There's no good reason for not only Buffy but everyone associated with her to lose all grasp of elementary strategy-and-tactics at this point.

Ah well. At least we finally got the backstory on poor Miss Kitty Fantastico. ::sigh::

[Dawn and Xander, out in front of the house, digging around through the car, ostensibly looking for a crossbow]

Dawn: I don't leave crossbows around all willy-nilly, at least not since that time with Miss Kitty Fantastico...

From which we can only deduce--well...

Although some tender-hearted kitten-loving soul on Buffistas had a great fanwank for this:

"No, she set it off and it shot Spike in the ass, and he went vamp face and MKF hid under a chair and they thought she'd be much happier in a vampfree environment."

::shrug:: Hey, works for me!

I've refrained from engaging in any conversation on Buffy for the most part this season - and yeah, it really hasn't been a good season, and I'm not fond of Spike's current personality, and and and -- but I look at it this way. It's like losing a loved one where their mind goes at the end. You know? I've loved this show, it's dying now, and it's babbling incoherently through it's final months. So, okay, it thinks it is a knife-thrower in Cirque du Soleil who used to spelunk on Mars; that doesn't mean I love it any less. It just means that I ignore whatever it's saying at the moment, nod, and hold its hand while it breathes its last.* Am I sad it's going out with a whimper and not a bang? Sure. But I just can't deal with all the anger that's making the rounds in fandom right now about various Buffy and Angel-related things. The vitriol has completely turned me off discussion at this point.

*Unlike, say, the last three seasons of X Files, where by the end I just wanted to smother it with a pillow and kick the plug out of the wall while screaming "DIE, YOU HEINOUS BITCH, DIE!" at the top of my lungs.

I *did* do something very close to this after I realized, once again, that I had spent two hours of my life--that I'll never get back--watching X-Files' Cheyne-Stokes breaths. It's a cold comfort, but I can look clearly at Buffy and say, "well, Joss is no Chris Carter."

Watching Buffy with Methos...(from SF nancy)

I can just see this - make sure that Duncan is nowhere within earshot when Spike comes onto the screen. I'll bet that Methos know how to appreciate HIS fine ass even if Buffy is too damn dumb to figure it out. Kissing Angel! Blech! OH - and make sure that Kronos is safely otherwise occupied because he would be very jealous if Methos appreciate Spike in the Way That We Know Spike deserves To Be Appreciated. We don't want to activate his rape, pillage and conquer behavior.
Kat and Methos watch Spike! LOL! What an image! I just wish you and Dargie were still writing HL because what a great Buffy/HL crossover that would make.

sorry about the mattress - If I had been there, the saleswoman would have been missing a body part. I do purchasing for my department and when I go to buy something, I am in control, not them. But then, sometimes, I'm not known for my sweetness and light!
