In an unfortunate confluence of events, I have (a) wrenched the muscles in my lower back, and (b) gotten a flat tire on my car. Fortunately, the car is parked right out in front of my house, and in the normal course of events I'd just jack 'er up, whip on the spare, and take care of business, glorying in the opportunity to be all rugged and macho and self-reliant. But I really think that even hauling the spare out of the trunk, let alone the jacking and changing, would do very unfortunate things to the already effed-up lumbar regions.

The guy at the local garage, four blocks away, seems massively uninterested in this opportunity to fleece me of my money. There might be a guy coming in who could come over and deal with it ... maybe in an hour or so, dunno ...

I am so, so tempted to just go out and give it a try with the jack, but really, the last thing I need is to be totally laid up for a week or so. God damn it. I *hate hate hate* being dependent and middle-aged-ladyish. ::snarling, gulping ibuprofen::

Ow! ::sending waves of back-soothing energy your way::
Are you in AAA? Because I think you can call them even if it's not a "roadside" incident.

Are you in AAA?

Alas, no; I severed my ties with them in a fit of pique about their political actions (covert lobbying against mass transit). Now that I'm driving a seriously aged and decrepit car, I should maybe rethink that stance, though. *g*

Thanks for the back-vibes!

Ooo, do not mess with the back!

::sending heat waves and massage vibes to the affected area::

When I find I can't do something, I like to curse at the offending object. It doesn't help the situation, but it makes me feel a little better.

::whispering:: I told my doctor my lower back was bothering me and she told me to strengthen my stomach muscles... like I needed to be told my stomach muscles need work. Bummer, now it's "official."

I know this sounds dreadful, but it's been my experience that if you hang around your car with a jack and a flat tire, looking upset, some guy will usually come along and fix the thing for you. I think it has something to do with the order of the universe.

Aw, Deb, that's so kind of you! Actually, though, I've got Bobby and Steve's Auto World ("We Have the Coolest-Looking Gas Station in Town!") lined up to send out a tow, which should be here any minute. But I send you many thanks! (And I send a hearty "Fuck you!" to Len's Amoco, which once again has demonstrated massive apathy towards its customers.)

Man, I wish I could teleport up there and have you work it over. Lower back pain is *the* most annoying thing in the world. Thanks for the vibes, though!

Arrrgh. Yeah, you're right. But ... ab crunches, we hates them, yes we do.

What really annoys me is that I wrenched the back, not while I was moving sofas or lifting boulders or anything, but while I was getting out of the flippin' car, a manouevre I have performed approximately ten quad-bazillion times in my life without mishap. Getting old sucks.

If it's any consolation, it ain't about getting old. :)

Has it occurred to you that you've been under A LITTLE STRESS LATELY???

Between the Family and the Job, you're lucky you haven't had a heart attack, much less a little lower back trauma, which is annoying and painful but survivable. I think your body has done its best by you.

For a beer or two, I could be convinced to come over and fix your back. ;)

This probably works even better if you wear a skirt or a baby in a sling.
