A few random things

1. While hauling myself out of slumber this morning, I listened to Bob Edwards' interview with Marshall Chapman on NPR, which was a wonderfully kick-ass way to start a Monday morning. (Linked here, along with excerpts from Chapman's memoir. Go, listen. It'll cheer you right up.)

2. The usual blergh of Monday is blerghified still further by the fact that I've got my annual midwinter nose infection going, the details of which I'll spare you except to say that it involves the entire right side of my face and neck swelling up and throbbing, plus the low-grade fever. Alas, I cannot just stay home from work, because most of our staff is out this week, and someone has to deal with the random panicky students who completely missed their registration period and have now discovered all their planned courses are filled.

3. I have become sadly, tragically addicted to the customers_suck LJ community, a spleen-venting forum for all those who work with the public. At this time of year, of course, horror stories about life in the retail sector predominate, and man, am I glad I've managed to stay entirely out of retail venues this month.

4. Reading through my friends list this weekend left me filled with gratitude that I did not sign up for the yuletide challenge thingie.

5. Still have not seen RotK. Must rectify that soon, except that from now until after New Year's the theatres are likely to be jammed with people hauling kids along. Drat.

I haven't seen RotK yet either. I'll probably catch it next weekend with my nephews. We can bond over epic battles and cute guys getting hurt! Er, okay, so maybe not so much the second part. :->

I may in fact go home early (a colleague of mine just scolded me about developing midlife workaholism *g*). But it isn't the flu, I know that much, just my old familiar staph-germs-coming-out-of-lurkerdom-and-getting-feisty thing.

*g* I really don't know why I find it such compelling reading--probably a variant of the gawking-at-car-crashes brain-circuit. It's made me much more conscious, too, of how I comport myself when dealing with clerks/phone reps/tech support/etc., which is all to the good, I guess.

I've been sort of trying not to read reviews and comments (not because of spoilers per se--I mean, I've read the books a million times) but so that any particularly cool bits in how it's filmed are fresh and new to me. I have gotten a general sense, though, that the canon purists are reasonably pleased with this installment, which is reassuring to me.

Congrats, Halimede, and yay for writer's high! I know, though, that if I'd done it, my experience would be more like the later stages of bettyp's SeSa saga, with the exhaustion and the despondency. *g*

I hope it isn't contagious - the mid-life workaholism, I mean. My job is irritating enough. I'd hate to have to care about it, too.
