Holy CRAP, we just had a huge flash of lightning and then BLAMMO! thunder rattling the windows. This does not happen in winter. Like, ever.

I stuck my head out the back door and it is pelting down freezing rain/sleet so hard the noise like being inside a popcorn popper. While I dig wild weather, I have to say that freezing rain is my all-time least-favorite manifestation thereof. Snow you can shovel, plow, wade through; but freezing rain welds your car doors shut, makes the sidewalks into skating rinks, and basically locks you in the house. Gah. Damn good thing I don't have to go anywhere tonight, and that the roads are not full of New Year's Eve drunks.

It was 68 degrees here today, which is just wrong on so many levels.

But the point of this comment is to say, hey--sit back, pour yourself a glass of Chardonnay...

...and we'll, y'know, check back later for the gamboling...

I went looking for the Lily, who had absconded from the front room and found her in the second bedroom curled up on a blanket left from my last guest; once in there, I heard the nasty sleetrain monster pelting away.

I'm so glad tomorrow isn't a work day.

We've been getting more thundersnows in recent years -- and it's unnerving. Like you, I don't think thunderstorms and winter should go together.

This whole thundersleet thing is obnoxious. I like your popcorn popper analogy; right now my house sounds like I'm trapped inside a rain-stick wielded by a percussionist on speed.

It's nasty out, tho not as much as it might have been. Jackie and I left a part early because I really didn't want to deal with it if it got worse. The sleet embedded in the freezing rain actually helped to provide a bit of traction.
