Gmail question

I seem to recall that after Gmail was introduced, some people set their e-mail address for LJ comments to a Gmail account, only to discover that the sorting mechanism put them all in one giant thread, rather than breaking out comments on a new post separately. Am I remembering right? Anyone know if it still works that way?

This is me, being too lazy to go run some tests and try it out meself ...

IIRC you could set it to threaded or plain view, but likewise I'm too lazy to go check. Sorry.

If you can, the option doesn't seem to be anywhere in the account settings.

Gmail recently changed something that broke the ability to respond directly to LJ comments from HTML mail, so if you find that valuable, I advise not switching over.

If you click the bottom 'Show quoted text' you have the reply from email option available again. I've never had a problem using it.

I actually find the threading system for LJ comments great. It keeps everything in one place, and because you can just flip through the list and select the comment, everything is much easier to find.

I don't think we're talking about the same thing, because there is no "Show quoted text" option on these emails. It's not that the reply form isn't available; it's that as of some time last week, clicking on the Post button results in an error message instead of posting the reply. There's a note about it on the LJ support (http://www.livejournal.com/support/) page.

Only semi-relatedly, I've seen a fair sprinkling of comments recently that people are having issues with replying to comments from a gmail account, apparently something that gmail has done, that lj can't fix...

Yes, pretty much; for each post you just get the one email in your inbox, with however many comments. It's bizarre how quickly you get used to it, really.

it now sorts per post. so all of the comments i get to one particular post are in one thread, but if i make another post, the comments for that get their own thread.

it didn't use to be like that. things just got all smooshed together in one or two big threads.
