In the middle of watching the updates on Rita, with fear and trepidation, I noticed it had gotten awfully dark out, and then all of a sudden the sirens went off, and yowza, tornadoes bearing down on the Twin Cities, along with the 75 mph straight-line winds and the big-ass hail.

Insert here obligatory philosophical reflection on how there is really no safe place anywhere. Me, I'm shutting down and going to watch the sky.

I don't know why I always think of you as being from farther south! Condolences on being there for it, and congrats on making it through!

We used to live in Orlando, that's probably why. :)

We were VERY LUCKY with Hurricane Elvis. Our street never lost power (unlike the neighborhoods all around us, which were out for anywhere from four to ten days), and we had no structural damage.

::nodding:: That is lucky! My mother-in-law was just down from the zoo (and the pandas) so her grid was a priority. One of my best friends, however, was two miles south of her and spent two weeks without power. Glad to hear you got through so well. ::curious:: You still there? (And if you'd rather not answer, well, ignore that.)

I sent an e-mail to you! :)

IIRC, the pandas had just arrived, so keeping them happy (and cool, since it's 9000 fucking degrees here in July) was a big priority.

::laughing:: I grew up in Memphis. I know *exactly* what you mean about the summers. Yeah, the pandas had just arrived. I still say they look like they need a barcalounger and TV remote. Anyway. ::g:: Going to read the email and quit spamming poor Kat's LJ.
