Fnargh. So after several weeks of unseemly (but at least private) gloating about my amazing resistance to all the many and disgusting varieties of Le Crud floating around (which I was more than ready to credit to the vast amount of residual virtue from my smoking-quitting), I have now been smacked with the raw throat and the achey trachea and the general blah.

Which is unfortunate, because this is probably the worst week out of all the weeks in the 05-06 academic year for me to be sick. I have around 1600 students who need to be reviewed--and that means, for every one of these 1600, scrutiny of transcript (courses taken, GPA earned) and of their major plan, and some sort of Amazing-Kreskin projection about the realism of the latter, given the former. About a fourth to a fifth of these have been discovered to have something majorly wrong with their spring registration (or, in the vernacular, "Holy *fuck*, kid, what the HELL do you think you're doing??"), and so I really need to get in touch with them before the semester begins on Tuesday. Needless to say, all this takes time and brainpower, neither of which are in ample supply just now.

I dragged big piles of transcripts home with me when I left work at 3:30, but haven't done a goddamn thing with them; instead I have been eating chips and cheese and swilling cheap brandy. I foresee, in the immediate future: (a) somewhat more of the cheap brandy, perhaps infused into decaf chai; (b) House MD at 8:00; (c) immediate collapse into bed after (b) concludes.

And, likely, no choice but to head on into work tomorrow, drat it. Too much to do to be out a day.

Curses on Le Crud!

I had something similar over Christmas which migrated to my stomach and set in for an extended visit. Icky! I wish that you were closer so that I could bring you gallons of Nancy's Fabulous Chicken Soup with ginger and garlic and Chinese Herbs and Nancy's Ginger/Lemon Tea. I could cast spells for you to get the job in the place-that-we-won't-name-in-case-we-screw-things-us. And other fun and healing stuff. Sending healing light - OH - and I am working on the solar return but I'm not sure of your current location (DUH!). I don't want to draw up the chart for the place of birth but for where you are currently. I think that I know but in case it's confidential, just e-mail me at nej1945@earthlink.net(stuftofoolthespambotsbutyouaresmartenoughtostrip away).

Ohhh, I crave that soup. *yearns* Thanks so much for the kind wishes, my dear! And current location is still Minneapolis, a.k.a. Latitude = 44.976015, Longitude = -93.278975. *g*

It's just going to be a really really interesting spring semester. *wan grin* The brandy will continue to be useful, methinks.

And how are things going with the design course? And with work craziness? And life in general? *hugging you*

The first course is over; the second begins tomorrow night. I got my grade from Studio I and will probably post about that later today or tomorrow. Short answer: B+, which I feel good about. But there's more to ponder. Always, more to ponder.

Work is in a holding pattern. We have a new uber-boss and with that will come massive changes. In general, this is a good thing for me, since it means I will be busy and not bored. So far, he seems like a good egg.

Life in general: dramatic, lately. Some relationship stuff is coming to a head this week. I'm optimistic about it, though.

Less cryptic responses may be had on the phone or in email. (:

Well, but, yeah, you are. Teaching requires more in the way of prep and thinkiness and so on; what I'm doing is just the sheep/goats quick-sort. The tough part is figuring out what to do with the goats, but I guess we'll come up with some plan for that later this month. Or something.

I thought of you so much today -- not because of illness, because gah, that just sucks, but because of Patti. We were running an article about her latest poetry book and the person who'd interviewed her suggested that we get her to record a couple of her poems so that we could put audio files up in the story. I was squeeing like a little fangirl (and I don't even like poetry!) at that, but it turned out she's in Europe for a bit and so it wouldn't work out timing wise. More's the pity. But I was jumping up and down and thinking, wait till I tell Kat!

If you're coming to Escapade, consider yourself invited to my place in LA -- if you have the time, of course. You could take an extra day or two and sleep in my guest room. (Or you could use my guest room for the con, though that would probably be a waste of your con time. I'm not planning on getting a hotel room myself, but it is a bit of a drive.)

Anyway, I'll be out from under my current project by then, so socializing will be a little easier.
