This is, as they say on Metachat, a shouting thread:

WHEN I PHONED YOU JUST NOW IT WAS TO REPORT THAT THE PLUMBING UNDER THE KITCHEN SINK HAD GIVEN WAY, FOR--NOT THE FIRST, NOT THE SECOND, BUT THE THIRD TIME! REQUIRING ME TO, YET AGAIN, FOR THE THIRD TIME, HAUL OUT EVERYTHING STORED UNDER THE SINK, FRANTICALLY MOP UP A DELUGE OF GREASY WATER, AND TAKE OUT AND DUMP THE UNDERSINK DRAWERS! WHICH IS GREAT FUN UNDER THE BEST OF CIRCUMSTANCES, AND I TELL YOU WHAT, "BEST OF CIRCUMSTANCES" HARDLY COVERS IT WHEN PERFORMING THESE TASKS WITH ONLY ONE USEABLE HAND! ON ACCOUNT OF THE FUCKING BROKEN WRIST, OF WHICH YOU ARE WELL AWARE!

AND DO ENLIGHTEN ME, CHUCKLES, IS THERE SOME REASON YOU CHOSE NOT TO ANSWER MY FRANTIC PHONE CALL JUST NOW REPORTING DELUGE #3, GIVEN THAT I CAN TELL YOU'RE AT HOME UPSTAIRS ON ACCOUNT OF THE MUSIC AND THE TROMPING AROUND??

FINALLY, PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, THIS TIME WOULD YOU GET SOMEONE IN HERE TO FIX THE GODDAMNED SINK WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE DOING? BECAUSE FRANKLY, YOUR ATTENDING AN HOUR-LONG COMMUNITY ED CLASS DOWN AT THE HIGH SCHOOL ON "MONKEYING AROUND WITH YOUR OWN PLUMBING AT HOME FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES" DOES NOT CUT IT, AS I COULD TELL FROM THE INEFFECTUAL HOUR YOU SPENT POKING AROUND UNDER MY SINK BETWEEN DELUGES #2 AND #3!

So. Ahem. What would *you* like to shout about? (Asscaps optional, but curiously refreshing.)

Oh, and also--

MY GODDAMNED KITCHEN IS FULL OF GREASY DISHES ON ACCOUNT OF HOW I CAN'T WASH ANYTHING, AND THIS MEANS I ALSO HAVE NO FREE COUNTER SPACE TO DO ANY COOKING, AND EVEN IF I COULD THE OVEN IS FULL OF DIRTY POTS AND PANS WHICH I HAVE NO WHERE ELSE TO STOW! SO I THINK UNTIL YOU GET THE FUCKING SINK FIXED I AM SIMPLY GOING TO EAT OUT AND DEDUCT THE COST FROM MY NEXT RENT CHECK!

if he doesn't get off his ass and get it properly repaired soon, call a plumber to do it, and deduct that fee from your rent check. I mean, there are limits, and it sounds like you passed yours about one deluge ago

That's what I'd do, too.

I AM NOT A LAWYER.

IIRC, you can, legally, set up an escrow account and pay your rent into it until he has a plumber out to properly fix the undersink plumbing, provided you inform him of this.

He can't evict you for non payment of rent.

Oh God. There's no fuckup like a WET fuckup. I hear ya, honey. Last week was the plumber's third trip out to our house. I kept hearing water running, you know? Oh yeah. Under the foundation.

check with your state attorney general or local housing authority before setting up escrow. In maryland, you have to establish that you have made the complaint formally by sending a certified letter in the mail and giving him a reasonable period in which to respond before you can start the escrow.

WTF, MAN. THAT IS RIDICULOUS.

I agree with the people who said the thing about putting the rent into escrow and giving him time to answer a response. Certified definitely. I had a former co-worker have to do that when something in the condo she was renting went and her landlord wouldn't fix it or replace the carpets, which were then all moldy.

oh, for fuck's sake.

Um, no advice here that you haven't already gotten, but lots and lots and lots of sympathy.

Oh goodness, I wouldn't blame you for printing that out and then nailing it to the landlord's door.

Owning my own house, I'm afraid all my CAPSLOCK yelling would have to be at myself....

How awful. Also, how hard can it be to properly fix a kitchen sink? I mean, I installed mine myself with no prior knowledge, just with the illustrated guide from IKEA where I bought it, and it hasn't broken down in nearly a decade...
