Mar. 19th, 2003 03:22 pmOne upbeat piece of news on an otherwise grim day -- the Senate voted against the provision that would have allowed oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. I'm pleased to see that Norm Coleman, the guy who replaced Wellstone as Minnesota senator, ended up breaking party ranks and bucking considerable pressure to vote against it.
And the bridges downtown have been reopened--apparently the scare was groundless. I have handed in my idiotic report, and am now going to go home, drink, and watch the war begin.

Date: 2003-03-19 01:34 pm (UTC)Oh, god, that is good news. A lot of the telephone surveys I've been doing lately have been about ANWR-- of course, it doesn't say "oil drilling" in the survey we do, it says oil exploration. Sounds so much nicer, doesn't it? Sigh.
