As we continue the countdown toward Project Relocation 2007: Liftoff!, I note some significant milestones achieved:

--HOLY CRAP the dead car (or rather, Dead Car #2, Son Of Dead Car) is OUT OF MY GARAGE AND GONE. (The entire saga of Kat's Multiple Dead Cars is chronicled in past LJ entries which I cannot at this moment be arsed to find and link.) It will get fixed, perhaps, and reused, and a worthy cause may make some money on it, and my brother gets a $500 tax deduction, and I get the goddamned garage emptied out AT LAST. Just in time to move away. Heh.

--A co-worker's college-aged kid who's setting up his own first apartment is interested in hauling away some of the furniture I've had trouble finding other takers for, including the Sofa Of Gigantitude, and they will come over this afternoon with a van and make with the hauling. YAY.

--I have finally sold the last of the books I was planning to sell.

--My desktop computer, which appeared to be possessed by the demons of cyber-sloth yesterday and was taking 5-10 minutes to open documents and froze up at random intervals, appears now to have CAST those demons out. Hallelujah!

--(My laptop, however, is still inexplicably refusing to connect to my upstairs neighbor's open unsecured wireless [to which I've been given permission to connect]. Woe.)

--Disconnects have been arranged for all utilities.

--Storage space has been reserved in Seattle to stow my crap until I can find a place to rent.

--I got my office completely emptied out and will never have to enter that building ever again HA HA HA HAHAAAA!

Today's agenda:

--Now that the Dead Car is out, I can finally reach, investigate, and determine the nature of, the Dead Appliance that has been sitting in the far corner of the garage, covered by a filthy tarp, for the past seventeen years. (I stuck it there when I moved in. It's either a washer or a dryer. No, I can't remember which. No, I can't remember if it worked at the time I stashed it there. I am going to have an appliance dealer/recycler come and haul it the hell AWAY.)

(It is clear, by the way, that I should never have a garage ever again in my LIFE. Clearly no good comes of it.)

--The bike will be taken in to the friendly bike shop and boxed up so it doesn't get smushed in the move. (Which means I've taken my last bike ride in Minneapolis. Sadness.)

--The putting of stuff in boxes will proceed, in its wonted random fashion. This will at least cut down on the litter of random crap currently cluttering my living room (e.g., yoga bricks; a box of file folders; a big flashlight; several candleholders; a spindle of CD-Rs; some extension cords; random mugs; cables of indeterminate function; etc. etc. etc.).

There was something else I was going to say but damned if I can remember, and I highly doubt it would be of much interest anyway. Of greater interest would be the very pleasant dream I had last night, a sort of Wilby Wonderful pastiche featuring CKR in a similar role--middle-aged guy of great competence, hard-won life wisdom, and incredible hottitude, in a UST-laden slowly-progressing relationship with a younger, confused, damaged guy. It was a lovely, lovely dream, especially the kissing scene. (*g*) I just wish I could remember it all better ...

OK, off to throw more crap into boxes, after pausing a moment to admire my lovely icon that [livejournal.com profile] flambeau made for me that is MINE.

Susan! Let me just grab this opportunity to say how really, really sad and BUMMED I was that events conspired to keep you from Vividcon (again!). I'd been imploring the airline gods to please refrain from screwing over any of my friends that weekend, but I guess they know how much I've been badmouthing them lately, and decided to ignore my pleas. (*kicks airline gods HARD*)

And now I'm moving further away from you, dammit; but I do firmly intend to get to Con.txt next spring, assuming that jibes with my work situation (assuming I *have* a work situation by then...).

*does the dance of delighted cleaning-out*

oh, man, Kat, reading this is like CHRISTMAS to me. I LOVE cleaning things out! disposing of things! getting rid of stuff! getting down to JUST what you need (wherein "need" is translated to "can't live without," to be interpreted as you will), and moving on with HUGE weights being lifted off your shoulders. omg, YAY. I am in awe of how you did this, and how AWESOME it must feel to be getting rid of HUGE AMOUNTS OF THINGS, and just -

I clearly am yearning to move. I love my house, but WOW. PACKING and SORTING and DISPOSING and just - my basement (which now has MY boxes, and my SISTER'S boxes) and it's all messy and unkempt and omg, I may have to PRETEND I'm moving and do a clean-out JUST FOR FUN) and just - YAY MOVING.

a sort of Wilby Wonderful pastiche featuring CKR in a similar role--middle-aged guy of great competence, hard-won life wisdom, and incredible hottitude, in a UST-laden slowly-progressing relationship with a younger, confused, damaged guy.

you WIN. *hearts*

I know I said this on your LJ, but oh my god I so WISH I could hire you to help with this. (Seriously, it's a gift and interest you could probably turn to significant profit, if you wanted; the world is full of people with more money than organizational skills, and it might make a nice free-lance sideline...)

And yes, re: the dream -- I would like to order a full season's run of this, please.

Yay for progress! I well remember the hell that is moving. We still have things in boxes from, um, nearly FIVE YEARS AGO. Kat, how the hell is it that we humans manage to accumulate so much STUFF?

Crossed fingers for you for continued milestone achievement. And damn, that is a fine icon.

Kat, how the hell is it that we humans manage to accumulate so much STUFF?

This--is the burning question that has haunted my life for the past few months. I mean, my GOD. I've been in this house (either upstairs or downstairs) for seventeen years now, and oh my GOD, the amount of stuff I just stuck down in the basement instead of DEALING with.

I have, however, taken a mighty oath that this shall never happen to me again. (Since all I'm likely to be able to afford in Seattle is a 600 sf studio, I may not have much choice but to honor that...)

I am actually kind of amazed by myself, to be honest. (*g*) Every day I get a slightly better grip on the concept that OMG I am actually DOING this, and I freak out. But a bit less every day.

(*happily pastes gold star to forehead*)

(That's because if I put it *anywhere* else in this seething pit of chaos, it would instantly disappear. Just like my big roll of packing tape, and my clipboard, and my mp3 player. Dammit.)

Thanks for the kind words and good thoughts!

Congratulations, especially on the removal of the dead car. My sister has had a dead car in her driveway for ten years now. Perhaps I can inspire her with the knowledge that it *can be done*.

I'm looking forward to your arrival here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest -- 73 degrees and sunny from where I'm sitting right now!

The real hassle for me always with dead cars is discovering that the title has disappeared somewhere, and trying to get a replacement title has always been an exercise in Kafkaesque frustration for me. If she's got her title, it's a breeze getting rid of the car; I had a very easy, low-stress experience with this car donation for charities outfit -- they were efficient and friendly.

And I have totally lucked out with the weather here for the next few days; I was terrified I'd be trying to pack and load in the usual August steambath, but it's cooled down and should stay that way until after I leave, hurrah!

Sadly, no, she doesn't have the title, it belonged to her late husband, and when she finally located the VIN, the computer spat out her husband's name but with a different social security number than the one she thought was his. Try to prove a person was who you think they were when their SSNs don't match. Hah.

Good luck on the continued good weather, and on the cross-country drive!

(*laughing bitterly) Yeah, my own title hassles, though different in the specifics, have been remarkably similar to this in presenting confounding, hair-rippingly unfixable and infuriating hassles.

I did find one place, at http://www.speedyautoremoval.com/?gclid=CKyVhaba940CFSaDIgodyTkCMA, which alleges that they will remove junk cars even without a title; might be worth checking out.

Holy shit. I want that dream. Like. WANT THAT. Wow. My subconscious needs to step it up. *g*

I have really annoyingly limited internet access right now (stupid old cheap computer crashes! dial-up sucks!), but I caught up on your entries about moving, and it makes me grin like crazy and feel super excited! You're going to be so close!!!

(Though I absolutely empathize with the crazy, stressful, exhausting chore of moving and have been marvelling at your progress!)
