A quick update to Friday's rant:

\O/ \O/ \O/ COMPETENT AMERITRADE GUY CAME THROUGH! \O/ \O/ \O/

He phoned me at 6:10 this morning, when I was still fumbling around trying to find my glasses, my phone, and the folder of Critical Paperwork (so that I could call HIM) and told me the wire transfer had just gone out. In my exuberance, I believe I told him I'd lift a glass in his honor at my closing celebration.

I mean, think about it -- he:

a) remembered what he had told me he would do;
b) DID it;
c) did it IMMEDIATELY and (as far as I can tell) ACCURATELY; and
d) promptly INFORMED ME of his actions.

This is approximately 465916576 times more intelligence and diligence than anyone else at that benighted institution had shown thus far, so -- bless you, bless you, Competent Ameritrade Guy, and may your tribe increase!

And now onward to the drawing of the big cashiers check, and the signing of many many papers, and finally a good night's SLEEP please god.

Huzzah!

If you have his name, when you surface from all of this find out his supervisor and send a VERY nice note - he's definitely earned it and should definitely be encouraged to do it for others :-)

Isn't it sad that simple competence has become so stunning?

Hooray for Competent Ameritrade Guy!

It's wonderful, isn't it, when you actually connect with someone who seems to really give a damn and who has great follow through skills. Recently I had a super meltdown at Verizon's expense because their stupid billing practices resulted in them charging me a late fee despite my being on an Easy Pay system. I bellowed at the poor woman, who said she'd fix it, and then called me the next day with the trail of how she'd corrected it, and threw in a discount for services on top of that. A week later she called out of the blue to make sure I got the discount paperwork she'd sent.

So indeed, let us raise a glass to Competence, as it's in short supply.

It's depressing that such competence is rare enough to be genuinely remarkable, but on the other hand, encountering an instance of it is uplifting.

I hope you do sleep well.

Oh, cheers to you, Competent Dude!

(And if you do send his supervisor a note letting him know of Competent Dude's greatness, you may help him rise ever higher in his career, perhaps even leading to competence at the highest levels of Ameritrade. Think of it! What if all of our financial institutions were led by women and men of Competence!Oh brave new world, that has such people in it!)
