Well, at last I figured out why I couldn't get the iBook to connect via the ethernet. It was because ...

(... wait for it ...)

(... drumroll ...)

Because I forgot to reboot the effin' cable modem!! [discordant tinny rimshot] AHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Oh my god, I am *such* a moron. <shaking head>

At least sitting around the house for all of this beautiful spring day, hunched over the keyboard, muttering anathema and waving my arms, has kept me from plummeting into my usual beautiful-spring-day depression. And hey! I got the CD player hooked up after only two weeks of it sitting in the box, so I got music again! Small steps, minor victories.

By the way, I've been totally crap-ass about thanking all the wonderful people who've left me helpful and encouraging comments. May I say with embarrassment: Thank you all, very kindly. And big thanks to AuKestrel, Mac evangelist extraordinaire, who's been most helpful with my iBook aggravation.

Actually, you are a genius for eventually figuring that out - and it's not too late to enjoy the beautiful spring day.

I'm off to walk around the lake again.

Rest assured that you are not the only one who can accomplish such feats of brilliance :)

*slaps own forehead in sympathy* Just be glad you figured your Incredibly Obvious Mistake out all by yourself, though, and didn't require a seethingly resentful tech support guy who clearly thinks women shouldn't be permitted anywhere near computers to have to point it out to you...not that I'm speaking from experience here, or anything.

I wish I could've helped, but I am totally inexperienced with OSX and I'm not much of a hardware grrl, either. But it sounds like you got it worked out.

Let me know when you start futzing with iMovie and I'll be much more useful then. (:
