Making a feeble pawing reaching-out motion in the general direction of my friends, and fandom generally ...

It's been a week. Nothing drastic or catastrophic going on, just pummelled with work busyness, and workplace interpersonal weirdness, and vicious cold weather in the early part of the week (northeastern US folks, my sympathies; what you're suffering is just what we had last Mon.-Wed.). Flat affect, general fatigue, total failure to engage in physical self-care or connection with other humans. Blah blah blah.

It is, however, nice to discover that the Joss Whedon commentary tracks on the Firefly DVDs are an excellent remedy for low mood and general crankiness.

I have spent the day shut up in my house, cranking out a thing for Flashfiction that, upon rereading, displeases me. Ah well. There's an additional week for this week's topic, so I may set it aside and look it over again when I'm in a less foul humor.

I don't know what's wrong with me -- well, I've just got a bout of the lost-at-sea unmoored existential drift, I guess, and if I were a normal sane human being I'd, like, call someone up on the phone, or at the very least hop on IRC, and reconnect with people. Instead, I go into LJ and blither solipsistically.

What I should do, since the new-possible-promotion-job is about to be posted, is square my shoulders and start updating my vita. But since that is one of thos massively depressing take me now, Lord kinds of tasks, I believe I shall refrain. I should also answer e-mail, package up an L.L.Bean shipment to return, vacuum, cook some food to see me through the week, and go to the gym. But I'm somehow not optimistic about any of those getting done this evening either. I may just listen to more Firefly commentary tracks.

It's almost one in the morning, the wind is rattling the corrugated iron roof over my balcony, and just outside the house a very morose-looking cat is making its way across the sheet of ice that covers the street. But I have fleece blankets to comfort me, and I vote you start with the food, which tends to be a more immediate concern than vacuuming.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could turn on a Whedon commentary track for your life? Sometimes it really needs to sound more entertaining. (well, mine, anyway.)

Well, by now you are (I hope) sound asleep, but it makes me very happy to think of you snuggled up in your fleece blankets (and I hope the poor cat got itself indoors!).

What I wish, really, is that I could get a Whedon rewrite of my whole life, 'cause god knows I could use a good deal more of the funny and the well-scripted. I'd be willing to put up with a demon or two, even.

Fleece is a good thing. :) the idea of going to Chicago seems a bit daft, weather-wise.

Well, funny and better scripted - but eeek! He's meaner to his characters than anybody on TV (except possibly whoever does "At Home with the Braithwaites"). You finally find your one true love, achieve true happiness, and lose your soul because of it. Try curing THAT with penicillin.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

My sister-in-law bought us the season of Firefly for the hols, and we just finished a marathon of them last weekend. Is it just me, or where the three unaired eps some of the best ones? I particularly enjoyed "Trash", and River's "I can kill you with my brain" line.

I have never watch DVDs with commentary, mostly because every time I try, I get sucked into the episode and they talk over the dialogue and well...but if these are good enough that you sing their praises, I shall very much try them out.

I actually still haven't seen the three unaired ones--I'm working my way through the set slowly, one by one, trying to make them last. I figure if I can ration them out to one a week, they'll get me through the worst of the rest of the winter.

What I enjoy is watching the commentary track immediately after watching the episode, because then I have a clear memory of what's going on in the episode, and can simply enjoy the conversation. It's also really enlightening to *watch* an episode without any dialogue (something I discovered while trying to vid) -- especially when you have Joss & Co. talking about the lighting, the camerawork, how the set was put together, etc. I see a whole lot more than I usually do when I'm absorbed in the dialogue. (There's a scene in the Pilot episode, for example, where they were shooting at such speed that if you look carefully you can see Wash holding his hands out and making steering motions without any wheel in them--they never went back and fixed that. I'd never noticed it until the commentary pointed it out. *g*)

That is neat. Some day I'll watch them. I have the horrbile habit of doing other things while I'm watching the tele, and I miss minute stuff. I just feel like a lump if I'm just watching it.

No gym today (obviously), but I really want to try for Tuesday, barring sudden rebellion on the part of my body.

Cool! That sounds great; I got in a big lumpish lethargic funk this week, what with the weather, and I *really* need to get physically moving again. I'm delighted to hear you're feeling good enough for it!

Aye, and if I were a normal, sane human being I would have watched my new XMM dvds with [livejournal.com profile] sanj this evening. But I was so depressed by the Packers' loss, and by [livejournal.com profile] yaoobruni being on the other side of the world (and assorted worries and sadnesses), that naturally I kicked [livejournal.com profile] sanj out of the house so I could be alone with my misery.

Here's hoping our weeks improve...

Before you listen to the "Objects In Space" commentary, get really, really smashed. You'll thank me.

Guh...I spent the weekend doing that. Worked on trying to make it seem bright and shiny instead of the paper holding that slight whiff of desperation that says, "Hire me! Please hire me!"

Ah, kat {{{hugs}}}...can't wait to read your next entry when life is, possibly not happy and cheery, but at least well fed with a clean floor. Wish I could be at Escapade this year. You're one of the people I miss most when I can't make it.
