I'm one of the weirdos who only uses her allotment of 15 userpics, and actually doesn't *use* many of them very often. But the topic's been on my mind lately because I feel I really should swap out my default Patti Smith icon, in part because several times people have come up to me at cons and marvelled that I really don't look at all like Patti Smith, and I feel like I'm pulling a bait-and-switch or something. *g*

While I'm trying to figure out what I want to use as a new default, I thought I'd sort through what I *do* have uploaded at the moment:

First, there's the Fresh Hell duo:

These both make me very happy, and come in useful for Posts of Exasperatedness. I also like seeing them side by side because, y'know, Scully and Giles really would hit it off, wouldn't they? (In fact, I tend to think Giles would hit it off well with most of the characters I like; it's sort of a litmus test for Kat's Fave Characters. Except for RayK, who'd probably just make him nervous.) Anyway, here they are, doing their respective lovely turns on Fed To The Back Teeth.



Bill T. Jones. Dancer, choreographer, writer, MacArthur genius grant winner. Living with HIV since the mid-80s; still here, still working. More about him here and here. I use this icon not just because I admire the man, but also because he is so amazingly beautiful, and this picture always lifts my heart.



Methos, of course, and this is the scene from Chivalry when he's just about to whack Kristen. I love No More Mr. Nice Guy Methos, and really need to get some screencaps of the bad alterna-universe Methos from To Be/Not To Be. This icon tends to get used for posts that are either morbid or rageful.

This is my only Vecchio icon so far, and I chose it for the way its fits my personal vision of post-Vegas Vecchio, that Armando Vecchio guy I keep trying to write about.



Ah, Frank, how I love you. There are other versions of this icon out there, but I'm very fond of this particular photo with that caption.



I made this in a whimsical mood when I was playing God in someone's comments, and every so often it seems appropriate for posts that are particularly pontifical.



And finally, a particularly gorgeous photo of Lance Henriksen. Now that I have my Millennium DVDs I need to get some good screencaps of the guy, but this'll do for starters.

And I still need a default. Phooey.

Eeep! I love the Patti Smith one -- I saw the CD in the store the other day and I thought of you immediately. I think it's something in the attitude. Or maybe the hair. *g* Of course, I knew what you looked like before you had an LJ to use an icon in, so maybe I'm biased.

I've met you many times, and even so, when I see your icon, I feel in some way that I'm looking at you. There *is* some kind of essential resemblance, I assure you. *kiss* I'd hate to see it go, though of course I respect the choice of change. ;>)

My god, please don't swap out the Patti Smith one. It's completely you (I mean that I feel like halimede; I've actually seen a picture of you, I think, and know you don't literally look like that). Whenever I see anyone with a icon with the same photo, I think, You dolt, don't you know that's Kat's?

I'm totally conflicted here, Kat. I also knew you before you began using the Patti Smith icon, so never had the "bait and switch" problem...and I have always thought it reflected well on your writing because your stuff is just so solemn and androgenous in a .... Kat Allison sort of way. Gah, I suck with words sometimes.

But... on the other hand, I'm a fickle and fannish girl and am having the most awesome love affair with Anthony Stewart Head at the moment, so I chose What New Hell is This, the ASH version.

In the long run, I suspect you will do what you want, cuz that's just how you are. :)
