What a wacky day. Yesterday was raw and cold and rainy; but early this morning, when I got up and started to do the mad-dash-in-the-dark to take out the recycling, I grabbed up the bags and charged out the back door coatless, shoulders already pulled up in the Minnesota Hunch against the anticipated cold, and then ... stopped. It was *warm.* It was also densely foggy, and everything was saturated with wet (leaves dripping even though no rain was falling), and -- *warm.*
It got up to 75 today, which is about 25 degrees above normal. Everyone at work kept making little sorties outside, to bask and twirl around in the sun--coatless! in late October! And the students were frisking around in sandals and tanktops.
And now there's a massive storm pushing up from the south; I wish I could get a photo that would capture the eerie quality of the late-afternoon sun, glowing brilliant gold as it filters through the golden leaves, and backed up by the deep grey ominous storm clouds billowing in the distance. Tornado watch and severe thunderstorm warning in effect, hail possible. Tomorrow we're back down in the 50s and it'll all be over, but for now I have all the doors and windows open and fresh air in the house, and ... OK, it's started raining, and *whoa*, big flash of lightning in the southeast. I love it.

*g*
My favorites are the lightning shots -- "Grain Elevator" and "Downtown Lightning," in particular. Very quickening-ish.

Date: 2004-10-29 05:18 pm (UTC)I may have to post soon about weather myself; today I found myself realizing that I'm excited to see the landscape bared for winter. I crave spring long before it gets here, and I know by winter's end I'll be more than ready for green again, but somehow I've become a person who's excited about the advent of winter, too. And that's strange to me, but also kind of pleasing.

Date: 2004-10-29 05:50 pm (UTC)I wore my Halloween costume to work. It's a sleveless sort of balerina dress, fishnets, and large black butterfly wings (yes, I can drive with them, and even wear a seatbelt, but they need wider corridors at work!) I got the dress to wear to club vid next year figuring that it was going to be to cold to wear for Halloween in Minneapolis. Boy, was I wrong! I was too hot all day and had to run the AC in the car, both for my comfort and to equalize temperatures.
The lightnening flashes were gorgeous from up in my folks' appartment, lighting up what you can see of downtown with through the rappidly thinning leaves.
