Cold. Cold cold cold. Twelve below zero this morning, thirty-two-below windchill. Inside my house it's hovering around 65, and getting myself out from under the down comforter was something of an exercise in willpower. I have re-learned a small but key bit of winter wisdom--when it's this cold, I have to get up, run the hot water for a while, and then go back to bed for maybe fifteen minutes. That kick-starts the hot water heater, which has been sitting in the very cold basement sullenly cooling down all night. If I *don't* do that, I have at best a tepid shower, which is not good in an ambient temperature of 65 degrees. Doing this does mean, however, that one has to do the forcing-oneself-out-from-the-warm-cavern-of-bed twice, which sucks.

I remind myself, as I pick away at story edits, that -12 F, or -24 C, is the average daily *high* for January, in Inuvik. Heh. Yes, I continue to have a hard time seeing Ray feeling much enthusiasm for staying up there.

Oh man, I don't think I could get out from under the covers twice. You are a strong woman.
